Long Term Care
What Is The Status Of The
American Dream?
I am happy to share with you the comprehensive report from
MetLife The MetLife American Dream Study. (Just click on the name of
the study for the full 48 page report.) This groundbreaking study was
conducted by MetLife to better understand perceptions among consumers
regarding the financial burden shift - an important insight driving the
need to help consumers build their own safety net, and the key concept
behind their "if" advertising.
This eye-opening work queried 1,500 Americans as to their views
concerning the continued viability of the "American Dream," in light of
the erosion of traditional government and employer safety nets.
Key findings of the study illustrate that:
- It is clear that financial security has become the defining element
of achieving the American Dream. This is not surprising; it's an
outgrowth of increasing financial burdens shifting to individuals.
- More than six in ten working Americans feel they carry more
financial burdens than their parents did, and the overwhelming majority
feel this burden will continue to grow for future generations.
- Most see the American Dream as a never ending pursuit, rather than
an attainable goal.
- While a majority of Americans feel they have yet to achieve the
dream, they remain optimistic about the future. A majority feels it's
still possible to achieve the American dream in their lifetime.
