Dr. Dill: Oh, hey, it’s me, Sean Dill. For those of you that don’t know me, I’m a 1995 graduate of Logan College of Chiropractic and it’s a pleasure to be with you here today. But first, before we get started, I want to give very special thanks to Dr. Stu Hoffman and everybody at ChiroSecure who’s made this video possible, but not only that, who makes my professional practice possible by making sure that they’ve got my back, allowing me to do the work that I do and allowing me to see as many people as possible in an environment where I feel fully protected, where I know that my rights, my practice are in great hands. So thank you Steve and thank you, everybody, over at ChiroSecure. If you’re not with them, I highly recommend that you check them out. Hey, just wanted to take a few minutes of your time today to introduce myself. My first time doing this, this event here with ChiroSecure my first appearance relative to ChiroSecure.
I wanted to introduce myself, let you know a little bit about me and some of the things that we’ve got going on. Now, some of you might have heard me speak at various events around the country. One of the things that I thoroughly enjoyed doing, getting out and meeting you guys, hearing about the things that you have going on in your professional practice, the trials, the tribulations, but not only that, celebrating your successes, seeing all of the great things that so many chiropractors around the globe are doing to reach more and more people. You know, after I graduated Chiropractic College in 1995, I did something wild and bold and decided to move down to San Jose, Costa Rica and start my practice there. Now, I didn’t really know much about San Jose and one other problem, I didn’t speak any Spanish. So needless to say, my first year in practice, it was quite difficult.
At the end of my first year, I was seeing about four people a week, not a day, about four people a week. I was having a difficult time making ends meet. Probably had about fifty cents to my name that very first Christmas, that time when everybody went on vacation and I didn’t have any more money. I didn’t know what I was going to do, and at that moment I had to make a decision, you know, I could come back to the states, maybe take a job with somebody, but thankfully I decided to dig my heels in and I decided to learn about business and decided to get really good at communicating what it is that we did. Even though I didn’t speak the language, I had to learn the language. And on top of that, I had to learn how to communicate the principles of Chiropractic in a way that would encourage people to bring more people into our office and encourage people to pay.
You know, in Costa Rica, there was no third-party reimbursement. We had to get people to pay out of their pockets, and listen, they didn’t have a lot of money. So a lot of times people think, “Well, where I live, people don’t have a lot of money. They can’t pay my full fee.” And I got to tell you, if you can learn how to communicate value, you can most certainly do that. So here’s the good news, forward ahead one year later and we were seeing over 225 patient visits a day. I was working five and a half days a week and I had more patients that I knew what to do with. We managed to grow the operation, the four clinics across Costa Rica. We employed six doctors of chiropractic and even two medical doctors, just to help us to do our exams.
Well, I end up moving back to the United States, because I have two young daughters. I ended up taking a job working at Life Chiropractic College West, thanks to my good friend Dr. Jerry [inaudible] who found a space for me, because after all, I had never taken part three or part four. And so I began a teaching career that was intended to be short live, but actually ended up being there for about eight years. And during that time, I just got this idea that we would start a practice and the practice would be modeled after the same practice that we had in Costa Rica and that was the birth of the specific chiropractic center, the very first office that we opened up in Dublin, California. Now, fast track that to today, and we have, now, over 17 offices spread across the across the United States from Kauai to Boston, servicing people in all types of demographics, doing upper cervical specific where we only adjust the top two bones of the neck, nothing else, in an environment that’s a cash environment where we’re getting people to pay top dollar for their care.
Now, for me, because of my background, that came rather naturally and easily, but here’s what I’ve noticed. As we traveled around the country and meet more chiropractors, a lot of people are struggling, and they’re struggling in the areas of marketing, sales, mindset, their relationship with money and how that affects their relationships with others. In entrepreneurship, you know whether you like it or not, if you’re watching this video in some way, shape or form, you’re an entrepreneur. And most of us are ill-equipped, at the beginning of our careers, to deal with the trials, tribulations, the way that we view money, the way that we invest money and how that affects everybody around us, including our business. You know, we oftentimes say that business problems are personal problems in disguise, and so for that reason, beyond the specific chiropractic centers, we decided to open up a consulting piece of our business that’s called the Black Diamond Club.
And inside the Black Diamond Club currently, you’ll find 400 other service professionals of all walks of life and actually have all types of professions, not just chiropractors who are masterminding and working together to better themselves with one goal in mind, and that is to see and reach more people. You know what we’ve figured out is that your success not only provides for you the lifestyle that you desire, but it helps for you to actually reach more people. Here’s one thing I know the people that are serviced by ChiroSecure have a passion for seeing a lot of people through chiropractic. Here’s another thing that I know for sure, you cannot reach a lot of people unless you have a successful business. One of the saddest things that I run into are very skilled and wonderful clinicians, people with amazing skill in the art of Chiropractic who very few or who very little people know about, because they lack the marketing and sales skills to get that message out.
That’s why we formed Black Diamond Club. I want to encourage you to take a look at what we have going on. It’s very simple, you can visit our website at www.blackdiamondclub.com, and there you will find all of the information on how to join that movement. It’s a mere $50 a month for most of you, that’s less than one office visit per month. I got to tell you if I can’t help you to generate an ROI on that type of investment than something is severely wrong. There’re no contracts, you can leave at any time. If it’s not your style, no hard feelings, you can come and go as you please. You can also check out some of the other things that we have going on, myself along with my wife, Lacey. Our website is www.shawnandlacey.com. That’s S-H-A-W-N and L-A-C-E-Y. There you can find our speaking schedule, different events, workshops that we’re putting on.
Like I said at the beginning, we would love to connect with you. We would love to hear how you’re doing and we would love to see how we can help you to get to where you want to go. I want to thank you so much for watching this video, for spending this short moment with me. I appreciate your time and attention. And again I appreciate Dr. Stu Hoffman and everybody at ChiroSecure for giving me this opportunity. I look forward to sharing with you more in the future, maybe here or in other avenues through ChiroSecure, but you are in safe hands with them and I know that they will be working together with us to bring you more quality information in the future. Thank you so much. This is Dr. Shawn Dill.
Speaker 2: This has been a ChiroSecure production.
